Jubilee

(NIV)Luke 4:18-19
“The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to release the oppressed, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.”

I think everybody knows the theory of jubilee. On the 50th year all will be back as how it was. Slaves were set free, land given back, debts were canceled etc.

Jesus “proclaimed” this year of jubilee. How did he act it out? Literally, atonementaly? Was he talking about spiritually blind and oppressed or physically, or both?
Were the people living in those times lacking health care, centrelink, debt care companies, reconciliation activist groups?

Does Jesus death have the same meaning/significance as Oscar  Romero’s?

But anyway, away from that tangent… Jubilee! We all know a couple with a daughter named Jubilee. Very beautiful… And I cant help but feel HOPE and CELEBRATION when I think of that word/name because of everything that it carries.

Freedom for the nations fighting oppression, freedom for the slaves slaving away in sweatshops, freedom for the indigenous of any country and gaining their land back, freedom for the kids in the rat race, freedom for those deep in a mortgage and other debts, freedom for those who have the mark of the beast ($) on their foreheads (mind) or their right hand (motives/what they do), freedom for the loving ones who WILL see this happen!
Oh, how my being dances when I think of the times to come!

But for now we moan like a  woman in labour, we moan because we can see these things yet we can’t see them happening, only in little snippets. We moan and soon there will be a birth. Renewing, joy, JUBILEE!!!

So right now, I am proclaiming the year of the Lord’s favour, together we declare Jubilee in motion, let us eat and dance and celebrate!
